Recipe: Handmade "Silk" Soap
🧼✨🌿
Ingredients:
- 300g coconut oil
- 200g olive oil
- 100g shea butter
- 100g cocoa butter
- 150g sodium hydroxide (lye)
- 350ml water
- 30ml silk protein
- 20ml fragrance oil (optional)
- Colorants (optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare your workspace with protective gear, including gloves and goggles.
-
In a well-ventilated area, carefully add sodium hydroxide to water (never the other way around) and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool.
-
Melt coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter together in a heat-safe container.
-
Once oils and lye solution are around 38-43°C, carefully mix them together. Use a stick blender to emulsify until trace is reached. This is when the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
-
If adding fragrance oil or colorants, do so now and mix thoroughly.
-
Pour the soap batter into molds and cover with a towel or cardboard box to insulate.
-
For cold process: Allow soap to cure in the mold for 24-48 hours before unmolding and cutting into bars. Let the bars cure for 4-6 weeks before use.
-
For hot process: Cook the soap batter in a slow cooker on low for 1-2 hours until it passes the zap test (touch a bit of soap to your tongue; if it zaps like a battery, it needs more cooking). Mold and allow to cool before cutting.
-
Once cured, enjoy your luxurious handmade "Silk" soap!
