Handmade Milk Soap
🥛🧼✨
Ingredients:
- 300g coconut oil
- 200g olive oil
- 100g shea butter
- 200ml milk (cow's milk, goat's milk, or any milk of your choice)
- 150g sodium hydroxide (lye)
- 350ml water
- Essential oils or fragrance oils (optional)
- Colorants (optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare your workspace with protective gear, including gloves and goggles.
-
In a well-ventilated area, carefully add sodium hydroxide to water (never the other way around) and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool.
-
Warm the milk in a separate container until it reaches room temperature.
-
Melt coconut oil, olive oil, and shea butter together in a heat-safe container.
-
Once the oils and lye solution are around 38-43°C, carefully mix them together. Use a stick blender to emulsify until trace is reached. This is when the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
-
Slowly add the room temperature milk to the soap batter and continue blending until fully incorporated.
-
If desired, add essential oils or fragrance oils and colorants, mixing thoroughly.
-
Pour the soap batter into molds and cover with a towel or cardboard box to insulate.
-
Allow the soap to cure in the mold for 24-48 hours for cold process soap or cook the soap batter in a slow cooker on low for 1-2 hours for hot process soap.
-
After curing, unmold the soap and cut it into bars. Let the bars cure for 4-6 weeks before use.
-
Enjoy your nourishing handmade milk soap!
